Exciting Changes for Dr Jess & ImmunityKC!
Hello!! I hope this message reaches you well as we wind down summer and head into the school year! We have had a very exciting and busy summer that is bringing forth new changes to our practice…
In June, my family made our annual trip to the beautiful village of Cuchara, CO, where my parents own a cabin that we lovingly call ‘The Shed.’ My Grandfather started taking his family out there when my Dad was a child, and I’ve been vacationing there my entire life. A few years after my Grandfather passed away, my aunt decided to sell his main cabin (which wasn’t being used and deteriorating) to a lovely family from Texas. They were great stewards of the cabin and brought it back to life. As their lives shifted, they decided it was time to bless and release the cabin, and the day they listed it to sell was the first day we arrived in Cuchara.
Of course, I had to see it! It has been a dream of mine (and my siblings and cousins) to get the cabin back into the family since my Grandfather passed away. I always hoped I would be able to purchase it once it hit the market. After seeing it, Nathan and I melted. The family gave us several days to talk it over and think and pray about whether this was something we were supposed to do. Cuchara is just outside the small town of La Veta, and this area is a second home to us. We are deeply attached to the people in these communities (combined approx. 880 people). We decided to make an offer, which was accepted… contingent on selling our home in Kansas City.
I cried the entire way home. We love Kansas City. We have an amazing, very comfortable life here. Our family is here, we have awesome friendships here, and our livelihoods are based here. I just launched my office at my dream location. What the heck are we thinking?!?
I have always wondered how people know when God calls them to uproot their wonderful lives to do something that may be more challenging and uncomfortable. Well, now I know. Don’t get me wrong; we have always dreamed of living in Cuchara but didn’t ever intend to leave our “forever dream home” in Kansas City. This cabin was the only thing that would guide us to make this huge transition in our lives and we couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity.
Our Leawood home has been such a gift. We moved in the first week of March 2020, and the world flipped upside-down the following week. The home was a 1980s time-capsule (blue carpet and wallpaper galore), so we spent the last 4.5 years updating it. Once we realized we were selling 1.5 months ago, we had to tie-up the rest of the renovations, and it’s been a whirlwind! Our home will be listed on MLS this Wednesday, August 14th, so I apologize for any delays in office activities during this time. Nathan and I are still hoping to buy another home in KC when the time is right (hopefully in the next year), but the upkeep of our current home and owning the cabin is not feasible. With that said, I have office space for an independent contractor or a sublease opportunity if you know anyone looking for space in Leawood (College & Roe).
I am sure you are wondering, “But what about ImmunityKC?” At this time, I have every intention of maintaining an office in KC. I plan to return every quarter (at least) to see patients while I’m here. I will continue to take new patients and complete follow-up appointments via telehealth when I’m not in the KC area, and our team will continue to support our patients with supplements, testing, and other needs throughout this time.
As you can see, we are figuring it all out. I care about each and every person who walks into our office, and I hope you will reach out to us immunitykc@gmail.com, if you have any concerns. We will do our best to continue serving you throughout all these changes and appreciate your understanding as we navigate the next year.
In Health & Gratitude,
Dr. Jess
